Gold, Silver and Bronze wins at Cannes Lions Health are the culmination of an exciting journey for our agency and client teams at Teva and Edwards Lifesciences.
Cannes Lions Health is one of the most selective and respected awards in advertising. Entries are judged by 9 industry specialists from around the world, and need to demonstrate an inspired approach to healthcare through exceptionally engaging work.
Last year Cannes was cancelled, so this year's awards covered work from both 2020 and 2021. In the Pharma category alone, there were between 500-600 entries, with only 42 entries making the shortlist. In the end, only three Golds were awarded. ‘Hairspray’ for Teva picked up one of these Golds in the Consumer category, and a Silver in Disease Awareness. The head judge described the film as 'perfect', commended the production quality and describing it as unique in the pharma category.
'Hairspray' was written to showcase the unconditional love and support caregivers provide, every single day. The film features an elderly man, leaving his home and attending a hairdressing class. We wonder why he is there, so clearly out of place? At the end, we finally reveal him gently styling his wife’s hair, as she is no longer able to do so.
Edwards Lifesciences also received a Bronze lion for ‘Storks’, an animated film advertising INSPIRIRS RESILIA. This heart valve can be liberating for patients, allowing them to enjoy many more active years and offering a new lease of life. It is this sentiment that we wanted to capture, cutting through the very functional, product driven advertising in the category. ‘Storks’ uses animation to tell an emotive story about patients being delivered back into their lives and the joy that ensues – showing that they feel ‘reborn’.
Since Cannes Lion Health launched in 2014, winning a lion has been a big ambition for the team. We entered work each year, but to date, we've never made it to the shortlist. So to win this year, amongst such a competitive body of work, and be named number 3 Healthcare Agency – it really is a highlight of my career so far. Brett O'Connor, ECD
