As Singapore marked its 60th year of independence, the Ministry of Digital Development and Information (MDDI) faced a challenge, how to commemorate SG60 in a way that not only celebrated the nation’s journey, but also reflected on its future. Beyond celebration, there was a need to reconnect Singaporeans with shared national values such as multiculturalism, resilience, boldness, and unity, while encouraging active participation in shaping the next chapter of the country’s story.

To support this brief, MDDI needed a national campaign that would honour 60 years of nation-building while inspiring Singaporeans to step forward, contribute to their communities, and strengthen the country’s social compact in line with the Forward Singapore vision.

GOVT VCCP was brought in to help. Working with MDDI, the agency was tasked with developing an integrated SG60 campaign that could serve as both a reflection of Singapore’s past and a rallying call for its future. The creative direction focused on building a “living scrapbook” of the nation, bringing together stories, faces, and voices that represent the diversity and collective spirit of Singapore.

The result was an SG60 integrated campaign led by a central film directed by Roslee Yusof of Freeflow Productions. The film tells the story of a renewed national spirit emerging as Singaporeans move forward together, reflecting on the country’s transformation into a vibrant, diverse, and forward-looking society. Rather than focusing solely on historical milestones, the narrative emphasises everyday citizens and their role in shaping the nation’s next phase.

The campaign was extended through four key visual executions and interview-based films featuring Singaporeans from all walks of life. These include multicultural band yIN Harmony, community volunteer founder Mae Tan of Kampung Kakis, inclusive fashion designer Elisa Lim of Will & Well, artist and disability advocate Gary Chong, social entrepreneur Nuryanee Anisah of Commenhers, and mental health and disability advocates Lino Felix and Zoe Zora. Together, these stories highlight a broad spectrum of contributions that reflect Singapore’s evolving identity.

The campaign was rolled out across Gov.sg social media channels, free-to-air television, and a wider ecosystem of SG60 national programming, including Chingay 2025, National Family Festival initiatives, ethnic community celebrations, and sector-specific programmes such as SG60 Connect! and the National Celebration of Seniors. The film achieved strong visibility across both digital and broadcast platforms, reaching audiences throughout the SG60 commemorative period.

The impact was reflected in strong digital performance and national engagement. The film garnered approximately 4.4 million views on YouTube, supported by sustained reach across television and social channels. Beyond reach, the campaign contributed to broader national conversations around identity, belonging, and collective progress, positioning SG60 as more than a commemorative milestone, but as a shared moment of reflection and forward momentum.

Aaron Lye, Director of Campaigns and Production at MDDI, said: “The celebration of our nation’s 60th birthday is an opportunity to build on the Forward Singapore exercise in refreshing our social compact. In commemorating SG60 together, we hope that Singaporeans can step forward and partner with one another to make the lives of fellow Singaporeans better. Let’s contribute to building a stronger Singapore together as we chart the journey of our future Singapore together.

Tim Chan, CEO of GOVT VCCP, added: “As the country celebrates its 60th birthday, we wanted the work to be a reflection of a Singapore that has evolved towards a new chapter of togetherness, boldness and progress.
