Last year, we reported that many of the big networks were trying to redress the balance by\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thedrum.com\/news\/2021\/05\/24\/network-agencies-move-gaming-who-ll-top-the-leaderboard\">spinning out dedicated gaming offerings<\/a>. As part of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thedrum.com\/topics\/gaming\">The Drum\u2019s Gaming Advertising Deep Dive<\/a>, we check in with some of the biggest players to see how things are going.<\/strong><\/p>\n<div id=\"articleContentBlock\">\n<p>If last year was all about the networks spinning out new gaming offerings, this year has been all about integration. Agencies are embedding their gaming offerings within wider expertise to draw in bigger brands. The focus is \u2018non-endemics\u2019: brands from outside the traditional gaming space. As brands awaken to the possibilities of this enormous and still-growing market, agencies are helping them to tool up and spawn in ready to win.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>VCCP+<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Back in February, VCCP launched a dedicated gaming proposition, VCCP+. Headed up by strategy vet <strong>Jonny Shaw<\/strong>, whose creds include Xbox\u2019s European launch and work with legendary developer Rockstar in Japan, it is deploying with a dedicated staff of 15 across VCCP\u2019s New York and London offices.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n  <\/div>\n<\/section><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"lazyblock-video-qNEOl wp-block-lazyblock-video\"><section class=\"fullwidth\">\r\n  <div class=\"container\">\r\n    <div class=\"embed-responsive embed-responsive-16by9 \" data-component=\"video\">\r\n            <iframe data-src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/bA_krvG1fIc?rel=0\" class=\"lazyload\" allowfullscreen title=\"\"><\/iframe>    <\/div>\r\n  <\/div>\r\n<\/section><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"lazyblock-text-full-width-ZuAnFe wp-block-lazyblock-text-full-width\"><section class=\"fullwidth text-center\" data-aos=\"fade-up\">\n  <div class=\"container\">\n    \n    \n    <p>That slim headcount is no accident. Rather than creating a gaming silo, the aim is to advocate for gaming across the business. \u201cWhat we are not trying to do is build a satellite arm that does experiments on the side,\u201d says Shaw. \u201cWe\u2019re building it as a core discipline to sit at the center of our business.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Shaw is rhapsodic about the need for a paradigm shift in the industry\u2019s approach to gaming. \u201cThe opportunity for non-endemic brands in the game space is completely unexplored \u2013 it\u2019s an absolutely strategy-free space.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is by far the biggest entertainment vertical of them all. It\u2019s criminal, in my opinion, how neglected it is in the world of marketing. It\u2019s a bigger, more important phenomenon than social, yet it\u2019s given a minuscule fraction of the attention and budget that social gets.
