Hector

Background

At VCCP we wanted to make Texaco known again as a champion of Road Safety as it had been back in the 80’s with its ‘Be Seen & Not Hurt’ campaign. Our insight was that children learn best when they are engaged and don’t realise they’re being taught so we decided to create a unique and ownable property that would deliver important road safety messages in a way that would get children excited. Our ‘education through engagement’ strategy led to Hector; an imaginative 9 year old boy who has peculiar adventures which bring to life important road safety messages. Hector has been entertaining and educating children about road safety for over 3 years now. He has a range of books, DVDs, reflective stickers and ghostly pac-a-macs, all given away free on forecourt. In addition to this, Hector has his own website, has toured the UK and is now taught in schools with the lesson plans available for teachers to use on their interactive whiteboards.
